Content within a fenced yard, this large dog is nevertheless capable of jumping very high. The occasional one is a tunneler.
Exercise and activity level?
Low to medium indoors; medium to high outdoors. A good breed to jog with, the Spinone is not a "racy" type. Spinoni move more slowly and methodically than many other gun dog breeds.
Longevity on average?
Excellent, 12 years and up.
Do they have health problems?
Like most large breeds of dog, the Spinone is susceptible to hip dysplasia. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals ranks the Spinone 39th of 125 different breeds in its risk for hip dysplasia. Spinoni have also been known to suffer from a rare but devastating disease known as Cerebellar Ataxia (CA).
